Penzeys Spices Has Arrived In Austin!
Do you know about Penzeys Spices? If you’re a foodie or you have foodie friends, you should. I’ve been buying spices and mixes from them online for several years now, and they have finally opened a store here in Austin. They are at 4400 N Lamar Blvd, just up the street from Central Market.
They make awesome blends and dry soup stocks, and vanilla sugar, and curries, and dried herbs, and they have about four or five different kinds of cinnamon from different countries around the world, and tons of other good stuff. It is an intoxicating experience to walk around the shop and open the glass jars and sniff all the different spices. You can buy regular sized jars, smaller jars, or bags. I recently went there and bought several little baggies of good smelling things. The Toasted Granulated Onion smells a lot like caramelized onions, and it is To Die For.

Another one that I bought for the first time was Brady Street Cheese Sprinkle. It has no Bradys in it, not even Marcia, but it does have everything else good. Pro tip: when “sprinkle” is in the title of the flavoring, they mean it. It is quite strong and a little goes a Long Way, as I discovered when I put too much of it on my popcorn. I’ve since tried a light sprinkle of it on pasta, and it was fab. I bet it would be good on garlic bread too.
Also, go check out my Go Vertical For A Creative Spice Storage Solution project that I worked on two years ago. I rewrote the article about it for my new website (Now With More Photos!). That client was/is a big fan of Penzeys Spices too, and you can see her Penzeys bottles in the “before” pictures.
If you’ve never heard of Penzeys, go henceforth to the store here in Austin, and spice-ify your life!
